WELCOME TO THE SEASONAL FLOW BLOG
Nurturing Seasonal Harmony In Your Yoga Practice and Daily Life
At The Yoga Space, we honor both movement and stillness, effort and ease — cultivating a practice that supports not just the body, but the mind, heart, and spirit.
A LETTER TO MY COMMUNITY.
Stillness Between Worlds
“When the mind becomes still, we can hear the heart’s quiet whispers. No rush to fix, just time to listen, let things unfold, and create rituals that inspire.” NM
As we observe the natural world and seasonal changes around us, fall’s colors fade, the trees become bare, the air grows colder, and darkness arrives earlier. We each experience this change differently. Some welcome the quieter days. Others find themselves missing the warmth, color, and energy of fall.
If you have a notebook nearby, you could write down what comes to mind. There’s no particular answer we’re looking for here. Just an honest one.
Most of us have something that keeps coming up. A conversation we avoid. A habit we explain away. A feeling we swallow and sweep under the rug. We become so familiar with our ways that the path is worn, and choosing another can feel uncomfortable. Emotions like fear lead us away.
What is your relationship with winter? How does winter make you feel? Take a moment with that.
So how do we meet what is here with more JOY? If we approach it with the eight-limbed yoga practice and acknowledge what is happening without tearing ourselves apart, we can admit that something needs to shift and take one honest step. To me, showing up in life, listening, taking responsibility, and following through with care is all a practice.
First give yourself a little room to listen and learn.
The eight limbs of yoga offer movement, breath, turning inward, concentration, meditation, and absorption. The Yamas and Niyamas, the first two limbs, give us a practical checklist of values to run our thoughts and actions through, like compassion, honesty, contentment, discipline, and self-study. These are often forgotten in the yoga practice.
Svādhyāya, or self-study, invites us to become curious about the patterns we may be stuck in, like our thoughts, habits, and reactions.
What am I telling myself about this season?
What happens when life does not match my preferences?
Can I listen to my response with kindness before deciding what to do next?
If this exploration of self speaks to you, I invite you to explore The Heart of Yoga by T.K.V. Desikachar as a companion to learning more about yoga and its eight-limbed path.
The next step is to let discernment and the light you find within help lead the way toward the choices, rituals, and habits you want. A little less rushing. A little more room to breathe. Slowing down enough to find some stillness, and maybe even love it. Perhaps it’s bundling up for a walk in the woods, reading under a blanket with your child, putting pen to paper, sharing a warm meal with friends, or making it to your favorite hot yoga class. Experiencing that warm, fuzzy feeling inside, a belly laugh, joy in your heart, or peace in your spirit feels really good!
And the magic of writing your shit down is powerful. You don't have to love writing to leave yourself a little note. Just jot down what you’re choosing, why it matters, and the values that led you there. These can get a little blurry as time goes by. When the B.S. creeps back in, come back to your note. Let the paper hold the reminder so your mind has room to be still and you have room to be present.
Winter is coming whether we love it or not. But we have some room to choose how we live with it. The eight limbs of yoga give us tools to pause, listen, and choose with more awareness. When we apply them to everyday life, we can begin to loosen the grip of old habits and find room to respond differently. To me, that’s a little taste of liberation—freedom. And I hope you explore it. I hope you find more JOY in your relationships, your responsibilities, and the simple fun of being alive. When that joy feels distant, return to curiosity, listen, and begin again.
What might help you feel good within this season?

This Winter, We Explore Together
November — The Descent Inward
Honesty and holding space for what arises
Through Satya, truthfulness, and Tapas, consistent effort, we’ll notice our habits no need to change or fix them.
Write down What keeps coming up, and what am I ready to acknowledge?
December — The Stillness Between Worlds
Making space to listen
Through Pratyāhāra, turning attention inward, and Svādhyāya, self-study, we’ll make room for quiet and reflection. Read, breathe, write, and share a conversation that invites curiosity.
What can I hear when I stop filling every quiet moment? Then start to add the rituals that bring joy and release the ones that do not.
January — The Return With Understanding
Living what we learn
Through Dhyāna, meditation, and setting an intention, we’ll explore how understanding becomes action. Return to your notes. Keep what supports you, adjust what needs adjusting, and take the next step.
What would it look like to act on what I already know matters?
My hope is that we discover yoga as a practice for living a fuller, happier life. Something that helps us show up with honesty and care, find peace within ourselves, and build deeper connections.
Our children learn from what we practice. How we listen, acknowledge a mistake, have a difficult conversation, and begin again can become something they carry into their own lives—and share with their children.
To me, this is part of yoga’s invitation to freedom and liberation. We begin to recognize our patterns and discover that we have choices. We make room for peace, love, and light, and let that care reach beyond ourselves.
This winter, let’s give ourselves a little stillness, stay curious, and practice showing up.
